Construction Project at Nottingham's Island Quarter Assigned to Land & Water

In the heart of Nottingham, a significant transformation is underway. Land & Water, a renowned civil engineering firm, has been awarded a contract to carry out piling works on the Nottingham Canal as part of The Island Quarter development. This marks the first time Land & Water has worked on a project for Sir Robert McAlpine and was recommended by the Canal & River Trust.

The Island Quarter development, spanning over 40 acres, aims to bring new homes, grade A office space, a creative market, a lifestyle hotel, retail units, a 'linear' park and community space, and student accommodation to the city. This thriving space is not just a project for Land & Water, but a chance to demonstrate their ability to deliver essential piling works to the canal from the body of the water, and to futureproof the waterway.

Lucy Lee, Contracts Manager at Land & Water, expressed her excitement about starting the project. She stated that the firm was extremely honoured to be chosen for these works by the Canal & River Trust. The project, set to commence this week, involves installing a sheet pile wall on the Canal with concrete backfill and forming a new concrete capping beam.

Land & Water's work on the Island Quarter development is estimated to cost around £200k. The firm's commitment towards creating a unique heritage site is evident in their approach, as they will use a ravestein pontoon setup for the works, showcasing their expertise and civils capabilities.

In line with their mission to leave the world in a better place, Land & Water is ensuring that the younger generation in civil engineering is safeguarded for the future. One of their apprentices will be responsible for quality monitoring during the project. This move underscores Land & Water's dedication to supporting the changing landscape and environment, and their commitment towards building a better tomorrow.

The Island Quarter development supports Land & Water's ethos of establishing trusted relationships with their clients. Lucy Lee emphasised that the firm takes pride in these partnerships, and looks forward to contributing to Nottingham's growth and development through this project. The works on the Island Quarter development are a testament to Land & Water's capabilities and their unwavering commitment to creating sustainable, thriving spaces.
